caught the tail of a dream down the ol' jet stream
left Greenland and Iceland be
we flew all night till we did alight
on the Emerald in the sea
*
strolled into a bar with a junker guitar
I was polishin’ into a jewel
took it out of the case with a smile on me face
as I sat on a dinky stool
*
yes I parked me arse on a wee wood horse
on a quadrupod of pine
‘twas there I found, ‘bout a foot off the ground,
all the happiest hearts entwined
*
I was high as a kite, at a hobbit’s height
and a foot-tappin’ altitude
where the soundhole sang and the ripples rang
through the musical multitude
*
‘twas the Spirit o’ Mirth, spillin’ out of the Earth
in a beautiful golden pool
and it felt so sweet, lappin' at me feet
in The Land of the Dinky Stool
*
from O’Sullivan’s Bay up to Ballinay
and across to the Doovlin school
sure I must be mad, what a blast we had
in The Land of the Dinky Stool
*
there we sat for a spell with dear Mick Lavelle
in a pub called Matt Molloy's
and he'd call us to sing as we sat in a ring
takin’ turns at the helm of joy
*
‘twas a rip and a roar on the Clew Bay shore
till we got hijacked by John
and disturbed the peace till the wild Wild Geese
packed it up at the break of dawn
*
adventure grins from the big Twelve Pins
on a spin with Monsieur Philippe
rhododendrons twist Connemaran mist
into turf smoke from the deep
*
well I framed me a poem when I got back home
by me pal name o' Wylie Norm
diggin' every word that we sang like a Byrd
from a soul of a kindred form
*
from Kenmare Bay up to Ballinay
and across Middle Earth to Narnia
sure I'll raise a toast to the other Left Coast
of a nice little California
*
so I’m on and on like a leprechaun
and a goofy old ramblin’ fool
but me spirit chimes every time it rhymes
with The Land of the Dinky Stool
*
well I cried and I cried, and I cried some more
and I cried cause I’m happy too
and I cried all the way back to Ioway
from The Land of the Dinky Stool
*
from O’Sullivan’s Bay up to Ballinay
and across to the Doovlin school
sure I must be mad, what a blast we had
in The Land of the Dinky Stool

And every word of this is true!
